Creepy little kids. Creepy identical twin kids. Creepy mothers with creepy face bandages. Secluded farmhouses. Cockroaches. “Goodnight Mommy” is a new film with a preview trailer so terrifying it’s being called the “scariest trailer ever made.”
The Austrian horror flick premiered at the Venice Film Festival and oddly has two directors instead of one. Before we get to the trailer, here’s the film synopsis:
In the heat of the summer lays a lonesome house in the countryside where nine year old twin brothers await their mother’s return. When she comes home, bandaged after cosmetic surgery, nothing is like before and the children start to doubt whether this woman is actually their mother. What ensues is a terrifying observational struggle with fatal consequences on par with THE SHINING and DEAD RINGERS. (IMDB)
Well, here it is. No more words. But we must warn you, if you watch this trailer, you might have some trouble sleeping tonight.
If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, reviews promise the film will be disturbing. Like, really disturbing.
The violence becomes almost unbearably brutal, and I can’t blame the multiple viewers who sprinted for the exit when their breaking points were reached. But fans of extreme cinema should consider this a must-see. (AV Club)
It hits U.S. cinemas on September 11th.
