Dan Collins of KIKN 100.5 in Sioux Falls heard that a Walmart Ice Cream Sandwich won’t melt in the sun. So, he put one of Walmart’s Great Value brand sandwiches to the test. And what do you know – it won’t melt, even after 75 minutes in the sun at about 80 degrees. So, is it actually ice cream?
Walmart attempted to offer an explanation. “Ice cream melts based on the ingredients including cream,” said a Walmart representative. “Ice cream with more cream will generally melt at a slower rate, which is the case with our Great Value ice cream sandwiches.” The Walmart ice cream also contains a number of ingredients used as stabilizers to help the ice cream keep its shape. They include guar gum and cellulose gum.
